What Are NOBS Toothpaste Tablets?

NOBS, pronounced “knobs,” is a dentist-founded oral care company. The name is a play on “no B.S.,” which pretty much tells you what they are going for here.

Instead of squeezing toothpaste out of a tube, you pop one tablet into your mouth, chew it, and start brushing. It foams up like regular toothpaste, but there is no tube, no mess and no mystery glob sitting around the cap.

The tablets contain 13 ingredients and are made without fluoride, SLS or parabens. They come in a glass jar, which I love. I cannot fully explain why the glass jar makes the whole thing feel fancier, but it does. Sometimes packaging just makes you feel like you have your life together for five minutes.

NOBS Toothpaste Tablets Use Nano-Hydroxyapatite

The main ingredient NOBS talks about is 5% nano-hydroxyapatite.

Hydroxyapatite is a mineral naturally found in teeth and enamel. It has also been used in toothpaste for decades, particularly in Japan, as an alternative to fluoride.

A peer-reviewed 2025 laboratory study examined the actual NOBS formula and found that it performed comparably to fluoride toothpaste in preventing enamel demineralization under the study conditions. You can read the published study here.

That does not mean toothpaste replaces your dentist, and anyone with specific dental concerns should talk with one. It does mean there is more behind these tablets than somebody tossing mint flavor into a jar and hoping for the best.

What I Actually Like About Them

The first thing I noticed was the freshness.

I tried the Classic Mint tablets, and they are honestly one of the freshest toothpaste products I have used. I also really like the clean feeling after brushing.

The routine is simple:

1. Chew one tablet.

2. Wet your toothbrush.

3. Brush normally.

4. Rinse.

   
   

NOBS also offers Grape, Vanilla, Citrus, Blueberry and Cinnamon. Cinnamon is the option for people who want to avoid mint and menthol.

The tablets are waterless and travel-friendly, too. There is no toothpaste tube waiting to explode inside your toiletry bag, because apparently toothpaste enjoys creating chaos while we travel.

You can also chew a tablet during the day as a quick breath refresher.

Is NOBS Worth Trying?
